HORSHAM U3A – GOING PLACES

Going Places is a very popular form of activity with quite a few of our members. There are several groups with up to 25 or so members in each group.

Although each group is autonomous, they are run basically in the following manner:

On inception and thereafter towards the end of each year, a meeting is held by the members of each group, to decide the programme of visits for the following year. As with many U3A groups, members are encouraged to organise a group visit every now and again.

Each group holds a visit on a regular day each month. As can be seen from the Horsham U3A programme, the groups meet on different days of the month. The visits are to a reasonably local Town or Village but occasionally to a place of interest usually indoors, when it is anticipated that the weather may be inclement, particularly in the winter months.

The members meet, usually at about 10.30 am for coffee, at a place advised by the Organiser. At about 11.00 am (if not before) we are joined by our guide who can be a ‘Blue Badge Guide’, or a local resident, probably connected with the local Museum or Historical Society.

The tour takes approximately an hour and a half and usually ends up at a local hostelry for lunch. The latter is not obligatory but can be very enjoyable and a chance to meet and discuss the morning’s visit. The tours are very enjoyable and informative, giving a historical picture of the local area.

If anybody is interested in joining one of the Groups, please contact the appropriate Leader or the Horsham U3A Group Co-ordinator.
