WELCOME TO HORSHAM U3A!

Here are some good-to-know points regarding membership of Horsham u3a:

Membership Subscription

  • The subscription secures membership of the u3a only and does not secure rights to personal use of any facilities or services provided by the u3a. Gift Aid will be claimed on the membership subscription if appropriate.

Membership Card

  • You will have been sent a membership card, either by email or by post [your choice]. Please have the card to hand when you attend any general meetings at the Holbrook Club or at the first meeting of any groups that you join.

Website

  • Our website is the “go-to” place for information. If you’re unable to find what you’re looking for, please contact any member of the committee using the Contact page on the website.

General Meetings

  • Our bi-monthly general meetings are free for members to attend, where we invariably have a guest speaker and also a book-stall where paperbacks and jigsaw puzzles can be bought for very little cash. Pre-loved paperbacks and jigsaws can be recycled here too.
  • After the talk by the guest speaker, there is the opportunity to chat to other members/committee members while enjoying a free cup of tea or coffee or a drink of squash. Please bring your own cup or mug for this.

Newsletters

  • You will receive a quarterly newsletter; Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter, either by email or by post [your choice]. If you have an email address you will also receive a news update in the intervening months.

This is the only way we have of keeping our members informed about current happenings, so please ensure that you read what we send you or you may miss something important.

Groups

  • There is a complete list of all the groups organised by Horsham u3a members on our website. If you click on the name of any group there will usually be information about the group.

If the venue is shown as, for example, Horsham or Warnham, this means that the group meets in a member’s home in that area, and to comply with GDPR we do not publish members’ addresses on our website.

If the venue is shown as ‘Various’ or ‘Variable’, this means that the group meets in different locations each time. Please contact the organiser of any group, using the group email address link, if you would like to know more, or if you would like to join a group.

Really Useful Group [RUG]

  • When organising any meetings or events, our committee members sometimes need extra help with this. If you can offer assistance at any of these occasional events, please apply to join the Really Useful Group and become what is affectionately known as one of our RUGs. This is a nice way to meet fellow members and committee members, while being “really useful”. Contact the Membership Secretary using the link on the Contact page or email: membership@horshamu3a.org.uk.

Third Age Trust [TAT]

  • This is the umbrella organisation overseeing all the u3as in the UK and the Chair of the TAT has often said that the more you put into your u3a, the more you will get out of it, so don’t hesitate to get involved.

All of us on the committee can vouch for this.

There is a whole big world of information on the national u3a website featuring further learning, support and links etc: https://www.u3a.org.uk/
